Необычные, редкие и особенные симптомы представляют собой неожиданные, специфичные для данного пациента исключительные признаки заболевания, имеющие большую ценность, так как часто указывают на подобное гомеопатическое средство.

Сыпь. Сыпь представляет собой поражение кожи или слизистых оболочек в виде пустул, папул, гнойничков или язв.

Хемоз. При хемозе отмечается выраженное воспаление конъюнктивы глаз с гиперемией и отеком глазного яблока под веками, напоминающее поражение глаз химическими реагентами. См. гл.10 «Орган зрения».

Хронический. См. «Острый» в данном разделе. Хронические болезни развиваются медленно и постепенно, симптомы проявляются спустя месяцы и даже годы. Часто хронические болезни имеют аутоиммунный характер; их возникновение часто связано с неполноценным питанием, вакцинацией или воздействием ряда токсических факторов. Безосновательно было бы предполагать, что болезни такого характера могут исчезнуть менее чем за несколько месяцев; в некоторых случаях процесс излечения занимает два-три года. В настоящее время хронические болезни встречаются значительно чаще, чем острые. Многие заболевания, которые ранее считались острыми, на самом деле представляют собой острые проявления хронических болезней, как, например, цистит или дерматит с участками раздражения кожи. Boericke, William, M.D. Pocket Manuel of Materia Medica with Repertory. 1927. Reprint, Santa Rosa, California: Boericke and Tafel. This is an inexpensive book with good remedy descriptions. A good place to start with a materia medica. See also Phatak.

Clarke, John, M.D. A Dictionary of Practical Materia Medica. 3 vols. 1900. Reprint, Essex, England: C.W. Daniel and New Delhi: B. Jain, 1991. This is an excellent materia medica from a master of the past century. Dr. Clarke gives great information on remedy sources as well as very good remedy descriptions.

Kent, James, M.D. Repertory of The Homeopathic Materia Medica. Reprint, New Delhi: B. Jain, 1986. All modern repertories are based upon Kent. This book is inexpensive and a great place to start; many practitioners still use Kent's repertory as their primary resource.

Phatak, S.R. Materia Medica of Homeopathic Medicmes. New Delhi: Indian Books and Periodicals Syndicate, 1977. This repertory is small and inexpensive and based upon Boericke, with Dr. Phatak's additional hints. A good introductory materia medica.

Phatak, S.R, A Concise Repertory of Homeopathic Medicines. 1982. Reprint, New Delhi: B. Jain, 1991. Dr. Phatak's personal repertory is based upon many years of practice. This is a wonderful book for acute symptoms, though it has great information for practitioners as well.

Tyler, Margaret. Homeopathic Drug Pictures. 1952. Reprint, Essex, England: C.W. Daniel, 1989. Dr. Tyler provides excellent pictures of remedies and highlights from the provings. Very good overall descriptions of remedies.

Vermeulen, Frans. Concordant Materia Medica. Haarlem, The Netherlands: Merlijn Publishers, 1994. This materia medica7 though expensive, is a great compilation from several authors, beginning with Boericke.

Yasgur, Jay. Yasgur*s Homeopathic Dictionary and Holistic Health Reference. Greenville, Pennsylvania: Van Ноу Publishers, 1998. An indispensible resource that assists tn understand ing the older medical terms encountered in homeopathic study.

Close, Stuart. The Genius of Homeopathy. Reprint. New Delhi: B. Jam, 1996. Dr Close practiced and taught m the early 1900s. This book is based upon numerous lectures. It has a lot of very insightful information, and it provides a good overview of the homeopathic method.

Hahnemann, Samuel. Organon of the Medical Art Edited by Wendy O'Reilley Translated by Steven Decker. Redmond, Washington: Birdcage Books, 1996. See next entry. Organon of Medicine. Translated by Jost Kunzli, M.D., et al. London: Gollancz,

1989. Hahnemann's Organon is the Bible of homeopathic medicine. The O'Reilley edition is the easiest and clearest one, and although it is more expensive, it is a beautiful book. The Kunzli edition is also very good. There are other editions by Boericke, but these are harder to read because of the translation.

Kent, James, M.D. Lectures cm Homeopathic Philosophy. 1900. Reprint, Berkeley. California: North Atlantic Books, 1979. Wonderful series of essays on the homeopathic healing art.

Roberts, Herbert. The Principles and Art of Cure by Homeopathy. 1942. Reprint, New Delhi, B.Jain, 1990. Very good introduction to homeopathic therapeutics.

Sankaran, Rajan. The Spirit of Homeopathy. Bombay: Homeopathic Medical Publishers. 1992. Sankaran is a modern homeopath from India whose ideas have had a great impact upon the homeopathic world. His work is somewhat controversial (some homeopaths believe he strays from Hahnemann, while others feel he has greatly expanded upon Hahnemann's ideas), but he gives a very good explanation of disease and the homeopathic approach, and the book is very interesting to read — and very thought-provoking.

Vithoulkas, George. The Science of Homeopathy. New York: Grove Press, 1980. Excellent overview of homeopathic medicine by one of the modern masters.

Whitmont, Edward, M.D. The Alchemy of Healing. Berkeley, California: North Atlantic Books, 1993. Compelling treatise on the fundamental nature of disease and healing. The author was a homeopath as well as a Jungian scholar and psychotherapist. My copy is well worn.

Coulter, Harris, Divided Legacy: A History of the Schism in Medical Thought. (4 volumes). Berkeley, California: North Atlantic Books, 1975,1977,1981,1994. This four volume set covers the history of medicine, emphasizing the divergence into rationalist and empirical pathways. Volume Three covers the conflict between homeopathy and allopathy in the Nineteenth century. Fascinating reading.

Winston, Julian. The Faces of Homoeopathy- An illustrated History of the first 200 years. Tawa, New Zealand: Great Auk Publishing, 1999.This new book covers the history of homeopathy in the United States, with many pictures of the great homeopathic masters. It should be very interesting reading, as the author is a leading authority on the subject.
